              Exciting days at Southeastern 02/14/2010

Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary is experiencing some of the most exciting days of its history.  I would like to share with you three areas about which we would covet your prayers.

First, Southeastern continues to experience increased enrollment, and with this growth comes increased opportunities and challenges. Please pray for the many students that God has called to this place to be equipped to serve in our churches and on the mission field.

Second, remember to pray for our president, Danny Akin, and the entire GCR task force, so ably chaired by Ronnie Floyd. On April, 16, 2009, Dr. Akin delivered a chapel message entitled, Axioms For A Great Commission Resurgence. His sermon expressed the concerns of many and set in motion events that led to the formation of the GCR task force. Now, more than ever, Southern Baptists are seeking God’s face about how we as a convention can best go about the task of fulfilling the great commission. The demands that this responsibility has placed on Dr. Akin are considerable.  Please remember him in your prayers.

Third, God has led David Nelson to step down from the position of Senior Vice President for Academic Administration to deal with health issues and to pursue a writing ministry.  David is a dear friend and brother in the Lord and I found it a great delight and privilege to serve at SEBTS under his leadership. Please pray for him and his family as they follow God’s leading to new areas of ministry, as well as for me while I assume additional responsibilities during this interim period until a new Dean of Faculty is named.

Something very special is happening on our campus – we have an amazing student body, passionate about God and His kingdom and focused on the task of fulfilling the great commission. There is a wonderful spirit in our weekly chapel services. I am thrilled that God has let me take part in what He is doing here at Southeastern.

Thank you for remembering our school and its leaders as we seek to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ by equipping students to serve the church and fulfill the great commission.
